HC - an Hydrogen Canister

This is the description of an hydrogen canister for vehicles with an hydrogen combustion engine; as well as for backup power generators (patent pending). It is a fully enclosed block of metal, built like a thermos, with an embedded aperture for the hydrogen extraction and refilling interface, where the metal does most of the containment work.

An Hydrogen Canister

The hydrogen canister is used to fuel a combustion engine, which runs only on hydrogen. It is  used as either, as a fuel-reserve for an hydrogen powered generator; that you can run inside your home -- the result of the combustion is water. Particulates from the engine are kept to a mininum.

The canister is made of one solid block of high-strength metal, and has built-in interstices to allow cool air or coolant to flow. The interstices are designed for free flow. The canister has a single interface at the top. The interface is able to lock in the close position, when the pressure level reaches a critical level. The pressure sensor is a mechanical one. The ratio of metal to hydrogen load of a canister may be 2/3, 3/4, or 3/5.

With hydrogen-powered cars, the canister is cooled with air-conditioning type coolant, that is made to flow within the interstices. The canister is encased in an enclosure, which doubles as the coolant reservoir. The current air-conditioning setup found in most cars, is redesigned, rerouting the coolant source to the enclosure. The enclosure, has space for 3-5 canisters, depending on the load of hydrogen required, to travel 300-500 Kms. The entire setup does not exceed 160 Kilograms. The enclosure has several heat-proofing layers; and does most of the work of interfacing with the canisters, and extracting the hydrogen, to feed it to the fuel injector, into the engine.

The enclosure requires little power to get coolant to flow inside the interstice of every canister.
